In conjunction with the Minnesota Sandplay Therapy Group (MSTG), Sandplay Therapists of America invites you to mark your calendars for the 2019 National Assembly May 17-19. The theme of the assembly is “Sandplay and the Body”. In Minnesota, the members of the MSTG are excited you will get to experience Minneapolis in its lush, springtime beauty. Quite different from January! We are pleased to announce the meeting will be in Minneapolis, MN at the Marriott Courtyard which is nestled in the University of Minnesota West Bank Campus area within walking distance of the Mississippi River walking trails. When you step out the front door of the hotel, you will also enjoy the 7 Corners historic neighborhood which includes many cafes, bars, and the Underground Comedy Club. The program will include case presentations, a mentoring lunch, a regional lunch, and of course the Annual Members Meeting for STA.

In recent years, there has been an explosion of research in the neurosciences which has elucidated much about how the brain develops and how the events of life, such as trauma, shape and change the brain throughout the lifespan. CG Jung, whose work provides the foundation for sandplay therapy, understood almost a hundred years ago that the mind and body were inextricably linked. In sandplay, this link is seen again and again in both the symbolic activity of the psyche and the embodied experience of healing and change. STA’s 2019 Assembly addresses the many ways in which the body enters into the sandplay therapy process and how we weave somatic and nervous system-based methods into the healing process.
